How long before social media brings in customers?

Three months for the first signs, six for regular enquiries, twelve for a reliable channel. Here is what moves at each stage, and what does not move yet.

Count on three months to see the first signs, six months for regular enquiries, and twelve months before social media becomes a channel you can rely on. Paid advertising shortens the first delay to a few days. It does not shorten the other two.

What happens in the first three months?

Reach and followers move, enquiries do not. That is normal, and it is the stage where most businesses conclude it is not working.

What is actually happening is that the platform is learning who to show you to, and your audience is deciding whether you are worth following. Neither is a purchase decision. Judge these months on whether you held the rhythm, not on the revenue.

When do the first enquiries arrive?

Usually between month three and month six, and rarely as a flood. It starts with a message asking a question, someone mentioning they saw you online, a booking that did not come from anywhere obvious.

These first signals are easy to miss because nobody reports them. Ask the question at the counter: “how did you hear about us?” It is the only reliable measurement most small businesses have.

Why do most businesses stop too early?

Because they stop at exactly the moment the work starts paying. Three months in you have done the whole effort and seen almost none of the return — it is the worst point on the curve, and it is where nearly everyone quits.

The businesses that get results are rarely the most talented ones. They are the ones that were still posting in month seven.

Does paid advertising speed things up?

It speeds up reach, not trust. A Meta campaign puts you in front of people within days, which genuinely shortens the first stage. But someone who discovers you through an ad still needs to see you several times before buying.

Advertising on an empty account also converts badly: people click, find three posts from last year, and leave. It works as an accelerator on top of a real account, not as a substitute for one.

What lengthens the delay?

Irregularity, above all — a two-month gap sends you back to the start. Spreading yourself across four platforms instead of doing one properly. Publishing only promotions, which gives nobody a reason to follow you. And a profile that does not say where you are or how to book, which wastes every visit you earn.

How do you know it is working before the customers arrive?

Watch the signals that move first: saves and shares rather than likes, messages received, profile visits, clicks on your booking link. These move weeks before revenue does, and they are what tells you to keep going.
