Les Ombres du Paradis is a book I wrote, illustrated and laid out. A personal project carried all the way to the object: the cover, the text pages and the illustrations.
The starting point
Telling a story from beginning to end, and keeping the same visual world across a whole book rather than a single image.
The world
A dead tree, a lighthouse, an open book whose pages are written in Latin. The illustrations are painted digitally in a very tight range of greens, greys and midnight blues, with a lot of mist: mood matters more than detail.
The book
A blackletter title on the cover, text set plainly so it can be read, sketches and illustrations placed between the pages. The whole thing is shown as a bound edition mock-up.
